Your Todays Luck: "Try your luck to grab a seat in DU by Lottery System"

If you planning to grab a seat in one of the most sought after colleges of DU-Shri Ram College of Commerce, first read your daily horoscope to try your luck before you apply. Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) of the most sought after college of DU may adopt a lottery system for enrolling students in the new academic session, but it needs to be first get approved by DU.

As per the principal PC Jain, the college is thinking to introduce a lottery system for admission after cut-off marks list are declared. Jain said, “If applicants meeting the cut-off are more than the number of seats, we want to conduct a fair lottery to ensure that the college isn’t forced to admit more students than its sanctioned strength.”

As per the official statement, if DU will approve the proposal, it will be implemented in all the college, not just in single college. DU official further added, “This change will have to be made in all colleges and not in isolation. The university will have to go over this carefully.”

SRCC has sent the detailed proposal with all necessary information to the university along with the addition criteria that would be printed in the annual information bulletin. Presently, all the students who met the cut-off have to be enrolled irrespective of the number of seats available.

The University, however, says that no such proposal has been received till now. Vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh also said that he too did not received any such kind of proposal.

This is not the only change proposed by SRCC this year. It also wants to give equal opportunity to students from all streams looking for admission in economics this year. Previously, students from humanities, commerce and science streams had different cut-offs. But they proposed that this year the cut-off list should be similar for all students irrespective of their streams.

There are many colleges which have been complaining about the admission in popular courses from time and again. As per the calculation by principals and teachers responsible for admissions, a reduction of 0.25% in cut-offs means that nearly 100 extra students become eligible for admission. College were looking for ways to fix this admission problem for a long time.
